Honda Humanoid Robot Asimo

Asimo is the product of Honda’s challenge for a new type of mobility, to walk with two legs. And the reason behind it? So that the robot can move in all types of terrain. Its designers has believed that with a enhanced mobility, it can serve its purpose of helping humans better. It is the built by Honda with the hope of making a truly useful humanoid robot which possesses both intelligence and physical capabilities at a high level. Built to work in a real world, the 34 servomotors embedded in the robot allow a whopping 34 degrees of freedom. With these degrees of freedom, it is capable of many actions, like reach for things, pick things up, navigate along floors, sidewalks, and even climb stairs - very much like what a human can do. Not to forget all the powerful sensors built into the robot to help it recognize voices and human faces. The Asimo is also able to use its ‘camera eyes’ to map its environment and register stationary objects, helping it to avoid obstacles. And with the new Asimo, which was introduced back in 2005, it is now able to accomplish even more advanced tasks such as walking with a person while holding hands, pushing a cart and even serving drinks on a tray! Looking at the progress Honda has made, it would not be long before we can have a humanoid robot which can act as maid, a receptionist, or even as a worker! By U036419B Jway Kim Soon

Wah, it is awesome!!

"possesses both intelligence and physical capabilities" reminds me the robotics in movie "I, Robot".

If they can be widely used, then there will be huge change to human's life.

Hope the intelligent robot will not evolve to be evil as in the movie,...

My family has been using Honda products ever since I could remember. Inadvertently, I became a Honda fan too. I must say that while the intentions of building the Asimo robot might be a publicity seeking attempt on Honda's part to show off her engineering capabilities, nonetheless, the Asimo Robot is truly a remarkable engineering feat.

I truly believe that it is possible, though not within my lifetime, that humanoid robots will integrate with society. Their presence will be a sad one though, as their whole lives will evolve around helping human beings and Earth.

As we can see from the various postings on http://i-heart-robots.blogspot.com, robots can be found in a diverse range of industries including the medical , assistive, home and security industries. What differentiates the Asimo robot from the other robots though, is its degrees of movements and its ability to react properly, as trained, to commands.

I wish for the day when humanoid robots can truly integrate with this Earth. That seems so far away though. For now, we'll have to settle for the Asimo robot. And I’m proud to be the owner of an Asimo robot. The keychain, not the actual robot…

Wow, this is really cool...
Does this robot have features for security purposes also? then it might really be modelling the movie 'i-robot' :)
This robot actually reminded me of the humanoid robot that danced in lecture! Who knows, in the future, NUS might be developing a robot like Asimo!!

Ashimo has been a very famous robot of Honda for a long time. And it is so advance in the robot world because of many complex movements it can make.
Only the part of moving stably by two legs has tons of work to do. I would like to have an Ashimo as a chauffeur for my Honda car.

Asimo is certainly the best humanoid built so far. It has amazing features and honda is adding more features at a rapid pace. Now it has acheived some what a celebrity status in japan. Moreover, to publicize the company, honda organizes asimo tours to various countries to show off their technology. It can even run at a high speed, walk hand-in-hand with humans, push trolleys etc.

I guess ASIMO is one of the most advanced robots in the world currently.

The amazing part of the robot is it can do so many human actions. Its arms and legs are so flexible that it can move in 3 dimensions and rotate in 3 directions. So basically, it can achieve any simple movement.

without a doubt ASIMO is my favourite robot. too bad i'm in the assistive group. if some of u are interested, i remember watching a video on ASIMO running in circles somewhere in youtube. well, its not entirely like humans, but its a great achievement for a robot. oh ya, searching through youtube, u might also find a video in which ASIMO lands flat in his face while climbing a stairs, during one of the public demo. but that doesnt dampen my support for my favourite white buddy.

if possible, i would definitely like to work for HONDA. they not just have their business in cars. they are also one of the few japan car manufacturers to participate in the F1, together with the automotive giant toyota. the technology of their VTEC engines are legendary. Asimo is definitely the beauty of the robotic world. I am always amazed by the robotic movements it produces. It is so smooth. And I believe it will be only a short while for the robotic movement to be indistinguishable from the human movement.
